1. What Are Cookies
Cookies are small text files stored on your device when you visit a website. They help the site remember information about your visit — like whether you're logged in — making your next visit more efficient and the site more useful.
Similar technologies include local storage, session storage, and pixel tags. We refer to all of these as "cookies" in this policy for simplicity.
2. Types We Use
We use three categories of cookies on Onboard:
- Essential cookies — required for the service to function. Cannot be disabled.
- Functional cookies — remember your preferences and settings.
- Analytics cookies — help us understand how the product is used so we can improve it.
We do not use advertising or tracking cookies. We do not build ad profiles. We do not share cookie data with advertising networks.
3. Essential Cookies
These cookies are strictly necessary for Onboard to function. Without them, core features like logging in would not work. They cannot be opted out of.
| Name | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|
| session_token | Keeps you logged in | Session |
| csrf_token | Protects against cross-site request forgery | Session |
| onboard_auth | Persistent login (if selected) | 30 days |
4. Functional Cookies
Functional cookies remember your preferences — such as your last active sidebar section, your display settings, or which dashboard view you prefer. These improve your experience but are not strictly required.
| Name | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|
| onboard_prefs | Sidebar state, display preferences | 1 year |
| onboard_theme | UI theme preference (future feature) | 1 year |
5. Analytics Cookies
We use privacy-friendly analytics (self-hosted Plausible Analytics) to understand which features are used and how users navigate the product. This data is aggregated and anonymised — no individual users are tracked or profiled.
- No personal identifiers are stored in analytics cookies
- Data is not shared with advertising networks
- IP addresses are anonymised before storage
- Analytics are self-hosted — your data doesn't leave our servers
6. Third-Party Cookies
Some third-party services we use may set their own cookies. We limit this to:
- Payment processors (Razorpay / Stripe) — set during checkout to prevent fraud. Governed by their own privacy policies.
- Email service provider — used for email delivery confirmation tracking (open tracking). You can opt out from account settings.
We do not embed social media pixels, Google Analytics, Facebook Pixel, or similar advertising tracking technologies.
7. Controlling Cookies
7.1 Browser settings
You can control cookies through your browser settings. Most browsers allow you to block all cookies, block third-party cookies only, or delete existing cookies. Note that blocking essential cookies will prevent Onboard from functioning correctly.
7.2 Account settings
Functional and analytics cookies can be disabled from Account Settings → Privacy. Essential cookies cannot be disabled while you are logged in.
7.3 Opt-out links
For browsers that support the Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal, we honour it automatically. We also respond to Do Not Track (DNT) headers — when DNT is enabled, analytics tracking is disabled for your session.
8. Policy Updates
We may update this Cookie Policy as our use of cookies changes or as regulations evolve. We will notify you of any material changes and post the revised policy with an updated date.
